Freethinking Anybody?

Richard Vobes
Richard Vobes “In a free society, in a society where debate is essential because nobody has the answers and science isn’t fixed, that in that sort of society it’s essential to be able to see both arguments. If however you are made to feel stupid or ignorant or you are told that you mustn’t have a question on policy on health advice on anything. What kind of society is that? So I don’t mind that people ridicule me, give offer a counterargument. My opinions are merely opinions. If people agree with them, that’s great. If people do their own research and discover whether I’m correct or wrong, that’s equally great. If people want to slander me and take the mickey out of me, call me names, I don’t really care. I don’t give a monkeys. It really just shows the level that they’re at if they do that. And I think that viewers will see those people for what they are….

We need more debate. We need more open-mindedness, especially at the moment when we can see a country heading in in a direction which is not good. And when we see that government is trying to cail debate, is trying to shut people down for having counter opinions, what does that say about the government itself? Does that say that the government is open to criticism, wanting to improve itself, wanting to behave better for the general populace? Or does it say that they’ve become more tyrannical, turned into a dictatorship and really are not interested in the public argument.”
